Once again Cunard’s majestic Queen Elizabeth enhanced Rhodes harbor on a second visit with the same week.
The surprise visits were due to the effects of the ongoing political unrest in the Middle East and North Africa and the severe fighting and instability episodes in these areas which have become increasingly worrying over the past few days. Cunard Line decided to change the ships port of call itinerary and include Rhodes in their program. The port of Alexandria in Egypt has been discontinued for the present time.
Queen Elizabeth operated by the Cunard Line is the second largest ship to be constructed for Cunard, exceeded only by the Queen Mary 2, and is capable of carrying up to 2,092 passengers. The vessel is two years old and the cost of construction was approximately Euros 420.000.000. The cruise ship arrived with approx. 2000 passengers on each occasion during her recent visits, needless to say that it is a welcomed boost to the economy as the end of the summer season is almost upon us.
If the situation in the Middle East persists there is a high possibility that other cruise ship companies will also introduce Rhodes as an alternative destination in their program.
