The tourist arrivals on the island of Rhodes had a positive impact in August, according to recent statistical data. August 2012 concluded with a decrease of 3.67% the result of which were more than satisfactory, taking into account the low arrival capacities during the previous months, and in comparison with the arrivals in 2011.
Although the final number of arrivals for August were by no means sufficient to make up for the slow start for the first and second half of the season, the results have definitely eased some tension and raised the hopes for the closure of the season in Rhodes. Should September achieve similar results (as entrepreneurs anticipate) this will most definitely aid the economic problems in the months ahead.
In August 2012 the island of Rhodes received 344.276 visitors by 'international' flights in comparison to 2011 which reached 357.394. The drop in arrivals during the month of August was mainly due to lack of bookings from the German, Italian, Danish, Belgian and Dutch markets. On the contrary the results showed an overwhelming increase from Russia, up staging France, Norway and the British who also excelled with a small but positive increase.
