Rhodes: A Greek Island and Gateway to the East
The exhibition highlights—for the first time—the excavations made on the Island of Rhodes by France, United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy and Greece, showing 250 important pieces (XIV-VI BC) from the collections of the Rhodes Museum, the Louvre, the British Museum and the National Museum of Copenhagen.
The exhibition aims to explore the island of the Dodecanese, from the Bronze Age to the end of Archaism. It also provides an opportunity to rediscover the Orientalist nature of Rhodian art through some of its most spectacular productions, particularly its gold and silver works, unique to Greece, and its faience with ties to Egypt and the Levant.
Organized by:
Anne Coulié, Musée du Louvre and
Melina Filimonos-Tsopotou 22nd Ephorate of Antiquities, Rhodes
